About me
สวัสดีทุกคนนะครับ
(English below)
Please let me introduce myself first. My Name is Jay (เจ). I am born in Germany and 24 years old.
I once lived in Thailand for one year as a voluntary english teacher and came back to Germany in 2014, without plan what to do next in my life. I had a culture shock back in Germany, then I started studying about science of religion and Chinese culture and language, because I was so interested in Chinese martial arts and meditation as a way to find my true self.
I just studied it for less than 2 semesters, didn’t even write one exam. I stopped studying because I felt no meaning anymore in just learning in classrooms so I decided to go traveling around the world. (If you’re interested, you can have a look on tramping2freedom.blog4.one) From March 2016 to February 2017 I travelled to 15 countries, had so many amazing experiences and finally also realised that I should appreciate that I can study for free in Germany. So since May 2017 I am studying
„Languages and Cultures of South-East-Asia“ with Thai as major and Indonesian as minor at the University of Hamburg.
My first experiences in Thailand
I will never forget one of my first moments ever in Thailand. Around 5 hours after arriving at the Suvarnaphumi airport in Bangkok, we (the other German volunteers and me) were waiting for our flight to Chiang Rai from Don Mueang airport. After traveling for more than 20 hours, everyone was quite tired. But not me. I was so excited. In the last hours I had already been to a Buddhist temple, tried Thai street food and was amazed by the crazy Bangkok lifestyle. And then I was sitting at the airport on a seat, having my small bag on the seat to my right side. Then there came an around 50 year old Thai man walking towards me, I thought that he might want to sit. So I wanted to take the bag down to let him sit next to me. As a reaction to my small gesture he had a big smile on his face, took his hands together to “Wai” and bended down to show his gratitude. Now this is a small story, but I will never forget this experience because it was the first time for me to realise HOW lovely Thai people can be. From the very first moments in Thailand I loved the country so much, felt so happy and I really felt home, although I had never been to Thailand before in my life.
My deep connection to Thailand
There is no way to describe my deep connection to Thailand in words so that you will understand it – because it is just such a big feeling. But let me try.. Until now I have been to Thailand 4 times (1 year, 1 month, 1 month, 1 month) and every time already before I arrived in Thailand I felt so excited that my heart bounced really hardly. Every time just after arriving in Thailand I hardly slept for a week because I was so excited and happy. For me the most important thing in a place where I live is how the people interact with each other. I am a sensitive and compassionate person, so I can see and feel the good or bad emotions of people. What I really love about the Thai people is that they are also quite sensitive and compassionate. When I walk on a road in Thailand and smile to the people, it’s almost like a mirror, I get back most of my smiles. I feel like almost everyone in Thailand is my friend.
Sometimes I wonder why I am born in Germany and not in Thailand because I feel so much more connected with the lifestyle and the way of thinking of the Thai people than with Germans. Maybe you can compare it to a ladyboy who is born in the wrong body.
I think I can say that Thailand is the love of my life. My experiences in that beautiful country changed my whole life. I am studying Thai at university right now and will study in Thailand for a year from summer 2019 to summer 2020. After finishing my studies I will probably go to live in Thailand to start a project over there.
Vision ♣ วิสัยทัศน์
(Turn on English subtitles for translation; English text below)
My vision with setting up this project “Round World” is to connect the Thai culture with other cultures.
My work here is to point out the advantages and disadvantages of the different countries.
If we can learn from different cultures to gain just the best out of them, we will be able to create a better world.
